The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta’ Pinu, located near Għarb, is Gozo’s most famous place of pilgrimage. The site gained prominence in 1883, when a local woman reported hearing the voice of the Virgin Mary in a small chapel that once stood here. Following this event, many miracles and healings were attributed to prayers at Ta’ Pinu, and in 1920 construction began on the grand basilica that stands today, completed in 1931. Built in neo-Romanesque style, the church is surrounded by serene countryside and remains a symbol of faith and devotion for Gozitans and visitors alike.
